Small Business SCOREs

Small business owners are typically experts in their industries, but rarely experts in managing a business, which can lead to slow growth and a few costly mishaps.

Resources for Small Business
The Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) is an organization celebrating its 50th year of helping guide small business with seasoned advice. SCORE  is comprised of successful business professionals who mentor and share expertise on a variety of business topics including start-ups, how to run and grow a business, marketing, finance, technology and management.

In 2013, SCORE's volunteers donated more than 1.1 million hours of their time to help 38,630 start-ups, mentor and train 124,617 small business owners and entrepreneurs resulting in 67,319 new jobs and 40,175 clients increased revenue.  Score consists of 11,000 volunteers and has more than 320 chapters across the US offering mentoring, workshops and resources to help small business.

You can request a meeting with a SCORE member at no charge. Depending upon your location, SCORE offers mentors with a wide range of skills in just about any field—from cash flow management to marketing to tax planning.Too busy to meet face to face? Score provides online assistance. You can type in a question and get an answer at no charge.
SCORE offers local workshops and online webinars—at little or no charge. But some of these may be more sales focused as they are sponsored and presented by companies that sell phone services, printers and other business products and services.  However, the value still may outweigh the cost to go and listen to an expert. You could glean some valuable information to help your business.

SCORE also offers the e-Business Now program, designed to help small businesses grow and prosper by using technology. The resource section offers a wide variety of information, webinars and how-to-guides for small businesses, some even translated into Spanish. Topics include disaster recovery, sales call planning guide, how to create a business plan, jump start your sales and more.
